Boiler Removal

Ah what a beautiful building it is...until you get under it's skin:) For those of us who are handy and like projects the building represents a near endless list to work on. I have been really encouraged at the involvement of the church members and friends of members who have put in time to work on the church. I wanted to highlight one particular project which I took on... the boiler. If you have never been down into the bowels of the church you already missed out on seeing the gargantuan ancient monstrosity of steel which was a remnant of the old industrial revolution. Being an ME I am interested in cool gadgets and ancient metal relics. Cutting up the boiler was fun experience in both. Having never used a Oxy-acetelyn torch or my new friend the plasma cutter I found myself looking forward to each up coming work party. Below are a couple pictures:

Much thanks to all those who wielded a torch: Ben Simpson, Vong, Scott W, Rikki K, Jakie, Peter, Richard, Chris C.

August 31, 2008 Building Committee Meeting

We had a great building committee meeting yesterday and just want to pass along a quick recap of what was discussed:
  • Signs for the fountain to help discourage children from playing on it – children have been standing on the coping around the fountain and leaning on the fountain itself to play in the water. However, the new plantings may curtail this, so we decided to give this a bit more time before deciding.
  • Signage for the building itself. Looking into our options for a reader board to be placed right of the main entry for our contact information and upcoming event messages.
  • A larger “Seattle Church of Christ” sign to be placed on the corner near the fountain was discussed, but is being added to our list of larger projects for the time being.
  • Lights for the columns in the courtyard.
  • Interior switch for the fountain.
  • Plantings – We’re planning a planting day on Saturday September 20th and will need as many volunteers as possible that day, so let’s get the word out.
  • Next meeting will discuss these items as well as getting the building ready for winter and the holidays.
